Are American Women Still Being Discriminated Against?

Updated on September 2, 2013

Woman and Feminism

I am a traditionalist, yet a feminist. I believe in equality for all people of any race, religion, or gender. Meaning, I do not believe that women, or anyone for that matter, should have special entitlements. I believe that there are Biblical roles for each sex, however, women should have all opportunities that are offered to men, especially in these modern times. Women should act like ladies, and earn respect and admiration as well as their pay.

Do you believe women are treated fairly in the United States?

Government Help for Women

Our own United States Government, as well as State Governments, offer grants, with help from organizations and entitlement groups that benefit women only. Is that really fair? Men, in fact, are disenfranchised from these benefits. I believe it is a form of discrimination. Some call it "reverse discrimination", but that term makes no sense to me. Either a group or person is being discriminated against, or they are not.

A few examples of government driven Women's assistance groups are:

Was it ever a man's world? In many countries, I would agree that it was and still is. Even today, in third world countries, women are considered property or second class citizens at best. However, the world, as a whole, has empowered women for centuries. Women have excelled, not only in our own country, but abroad as well.

Besides Geraldine Ferraro, the first female Vice Presidential Candidate, there are numerous women in America who have achieved power and success. According to Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D) of 1st District of Nevada, There are currently 76 women serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and 17 in the U.S. Senate. There have been more than 35 State Elected women Governors in the USA, and 4 female U.S. Supreme Court Justices have had the honor of serving.

In other industries, numerous women have excelled, regardless of their age, race, sexual orientation, or religious views, and are receiving equal or greater treatment than men. Of course, Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres are famous talk show hosts. But what about the abundance of female doctors, lawyers, business owners, scientists, journalists and so on?

I believe that not only are women in this country are treated fairly, but have certain advantages over men. We all have equal rights and opportunities under the law, and hard work coupled with perseverance will decide a woman’s success.

As always, I certainly hope this was entertaining and helpful.
